Old Joe: Legendary Reptile - Established homestead at Wakulla Springs prior to any construction in the area. Estimated age around 200 years. Weight 650 pounds, length 11 feet, 2 inches. Lived at Springs on sand bar across from swimming area. Was murdered by assailants unknown on Sunday night August 1, 1966. Had never molested man, woman, child, or pet. Climate - The average January temperature is 54.2 F, and the average August temperature is 81.4 F. The average annual rainfall is 54.03 inches. The water temperature in the spring remains relatively constant year-round at about 70 degrees.
